8:30 a.m.
Dublin

(Coach pickup points: Gresham Hotel, O’Connell Street, Trinity College, Nassau Street).   The coach will take the scenic route to Kells, and you can enjoy the views of the lush & green Royal County of Meath.

9:30 a.m.

Arrive at the Headfort Arms Hotel for a comfort break.   Tea, coffee & scones on arrival.

Heritage Town of Kells

A walk around the Heritage Town of Kells.  See the best collection of early Christian architecture in Ireland, the High Crosses, Round Tower and Colmcille’s House (stone oratory), all dating from the 9th century onwards.  See where the Book of Kells was completed and kept safe for 850 years.

Self Explore

Passengers have a total of an hour and 20 minutes to explore the local shops, visit and have lunch.

Loughcrew Neolithic Cairns

Depart for Loughcrew Neolithic Cairns (Slieve na Calliagh; Hill of the Witch)

At the cairns, after a brief climb of about 15 minutes, uncover the wonderful views and the cairns /  tombs  which approximately 5,800 years old – 2,000+ years older than the Pyramids of Egypt!
A place that reminds us about those who are gone, about ourselves and those that are still going to come.

Sit on the hag’s chair and make a wish!

When we come down the hill we will head to Loughcrew Coffee shop for a comfort break and refreshments.

St. Ciaran’s Well

Legend tells us that these wells were formed at St. Ciaran’s command and have healing powers.

This was probably a place of worship in pagan times.

Three cooked fish are said to appear in the well at midnight on the first Saturday of August.
